What baby clothes should you choose for a baby born in November? Make autumn feel cheerful too!

If your little one is arriving in November, they’ll be greeted by proper late-autumn weather. The days are shorter, often grey, and the mornings are getting colder. That doesn’t mean dressing a newborn has to be complicated – you simply need to know what they’ll genuinely need. The main things to focus on are practicality and comfort.

In this article, I’ll walk you through which pieces will be useful in the first few weeks, how to dress your baby at home and for walks, and why a lovely colourful baby outfit can brighten even the gloomiest November days. In the examples below, we’re using LiaaBébé clothing as our starting point, because these pieces are specially made with newborn comfort in mind.

What clothes will your November baby need?

  • long-sleeved bodysuits

  • soft sleepsuits

  • a soft cardigan

  • soft footed baby trousers

  • a warmer sleeping bag for sleep

  • socks, a lighter hat and a warmer hat, and possibly a soft scarf

  • a baby blanket or footmuff for walks

Of course, you don’t need lots of each item. A few easy-to-mix pieces are more than enough in the first few weeks, especially if they wash well and dry quickly.

What kind of weather can we expect in November?

November is a real transition between autumn and winter. Based on the 2025 figures, daytime temperatures sat mostly between 6–10°C for much of the month, although colder days can happen too.

Mornings are often around 0°C or below freezing, and several frosty days can be expected over the course of the month. Occasionally, dawn temperatures may even dip below -5°C.

The weather is often cloudy or misty, and November usually brings plenty of rainy days as well. At the same time, now and then we wake up to surprisingly mild weather, when temperatures climb above 10°C.

That’s exactly why layering matters so much: it makes it much easier to adapt to the weather.

How should you dress your baby at home?

In most homes, winter indoor temperatures are around 21–23°C, although for a newborn, a slightly warmer 22–25°C is ideal. In this environment, a bodysuit and a comfortable sleepsuit with a sleeping bag are usually enough (you’ll find the right TOG values at the bottom of this article). At 25°C, a bodysuit on its own is usually enough underneath a sleeping bag or baby blanket.

For sleep, many parents use a sleeping bag because it’s so practical: baby can’t kick it off – yes, even newborns sometimes manage that – so it keeps them evenly warm.

LiaaBébé’s bamboo clothing is especially good for home because it’s breathable and soft, allowing baby’s skin to breathe comfortably. It’s a temperature-regulating fabric, which helps a great deal in making sure your child’s body doesn’t get too cold or too hot.

Outdoor walks in November – yes, they’re still a lovely idea

Lots of parents feel unsure about whether it’s worth taking a baby out during the colder months. The answer is yes: fresh air is still good for baby at this time of year – they just need to be dressed properly. When dressing a newborn or young baby, the easy rule of thumb still holds true: put them in one more layer than you feel comfortable wearing yourself.

In November, always keep an eye on the outdoor temperature and dress your little one accordingly in a long-sleeved bodysuit, a sleepsuit, a footmuff, and a warm hat. If the air is colder or it’s windy, a blanket can also come in handy in the pram. At times like this, it’s important not to leave baby exposed to unpleasant wind or freezing air for too long, and it’s worth shielding the air from their face with something like a muslin cloth draped over the pram.

Colourful baby clothes can lift our mood in autumn

November is often a grey sort of month. The days are shorter, the sky is often overcast, and it’s easy to feel more tired than usual. That can be especially true for a mum who is in those very first weeks with her newborn. At times like this, you don’t always feel much like going out, especially when it’s cold.

Bright colours, though, can have a positive effect on our mood. The sight of a sweet, cheerful baby outfit can give you a little lift and bring back a touch of that summer feeling. Just have a look.

A bright mint green long-sleeved bodysuit, a pink tiger-print short-sleeved bodysuit, or a giraffe-print sleepsuit can all bring a lovely, cheerful feel to family life.

Why is choosing the right fabric so important?

A newborn’s skin is far more sensitive than an adult’s, which is why fabric choice matters so much.

Your experiences are incredibly valuable feedback for us, so we always pay close attention to what you think. Baby clothes made from bamboo fibre are so popular because they are soft, breathable and help regulate body temperature. That is especially useful during the colder months, when a baby can easily become too warm or too cold.

LiaaBébé clothes are made from these kinds of fabrics for exactly that reason: they’re comfortable, kind to skin, and practical for everyday use.

Frequently asked questions about dressing a baby in November

What does the TOG rating mean for sleeping bags and baby blankets?

TOG is a unit used to show the thickness of a fabric. It tells you how warmly the baby clothing keeps your child’s body. The higher the TOG rating, the warmer the sleeping bag or baby blanket.

A quick guide to help you choose:

  • 0.5 TOG 22–25°C

  • 1.5 TOG 20–23°C

  • 2.5 TOG 18–21°C

Can I use a footmuff in the pram?
Yes, many parents really like using one because it’s simpler than constantly adjusting several blankets. It gives baby steady warmth.

Does a newborn need separate sleepwear?
Most newborns sleep in the same comfortable sleepsuits they wear during the day. The sleeping bag then helps keep them at the right temperature.

If your baby is born in November, the most important thing is layering and choosing comfortable clothes made from natural fabrics

And don’t forget: a cheerful, colourful baby outfit doesn’t just look lovely on your baby – it can brighten the whole family’s mood on gloomy November days too.

LiaaBébé baby clothes bring those two things together beautifully: comfort for your baby and a little joy in everyday life.
