Is your baby due in June? These are the clothes to get for the first few weeks
June weather can bring mild summer evenings, warm nights and proper heatwave days all in one month. Based on 2025, that meant average temperatures of 21 to 23 °C, heatwave days above 30 °C, and often cool early mornings below 20 °C.
Early summer can be just as unpredictable as spring. The difference is that temperatures are already much higher, and quite often it is not the cooler weather we need to worry about, but the heat.
Let’s take a look at what we recommend for your June baby’s first wardrobe.
In short
For a thoughtfully planned summer baby wardrobe, you do not need lots of clothes. It is much better to choose quality pieces that work well together.
LiaaBébé recommends:
- Short-sleeved bodysuits made from bamboo fibre
- Long-sleeved bodysuits for cooler days
- Zip-up sleepsuits
- A 0.5 TOG sleeping bag
- A lightweight bamboo blanket
- Socks, these can still come in handy in the evening, even in summer
- A lightweight cotton hat, especially after bath time
Our clothes are stretchy, hold their shape beautifully, and almost “grow” with your baby. That means they can be worn for much longer than just a few weeks, so they work out brilliantly in the long run too.
Layering is still useful in June
You may have 32 °C during the day, yet by evening the temperature can drop to 18 to 20 °C. A newborn baby cannot regulate their own body temperature yet, so it is up to us to pay attention to these sensitive temperature changes and help keep their body temperature at a safe level.
In June, it still makes sense to think in layers, but these layers should be light, breathable and easy to mix and match.
What might a basic combination look like?
- On warmer days indoors: a short-sleeved or long-sleeved bodysuit with a lightweight blanket
- At around 22 to 24 °C: a bodysuit with a thin, well-ventilated sleepsuit
- On cooler mornings or in the evening: a bodysuit with a sleepsuit and a lightweight blanket, or a sleeping bag
There is one detail worth paying close attention to when dressing in layers, and that is how stretchy the fabric is. If the baby clothing is nicely elastic, it becomes much easier to change your little newborn more often as the weather changes.
What is the right room temperature for newborns?

According to professional guidance, 22 to 25 °C is the ideal room temperature for newborns, and in summer this becomes especially important.
If your home feels warm, choosing the right fabric can make a real difference. LiaaBébé bamboo fibre clothing has temperature-regulating properties: in warm weather it helps keep your baby cool, while also allowing the skin to breathe and drawing moisture away. This can be especially helpful on warm nights when the temperature does not drop below 20 °C.
If you use air conditioning, make sure the cool air is not blowing directly onto your baby, and always allow for the temperature difference when choosing what to dress them in.
What should a newborn born in June sleep in?
In summer, many parents feel unsure about sleepwear.
In a room at 22 to 24 °C:
- A bodysuit with a sleepsuit and a 0.5 TOG sleeping bag is an ideal choice
At around 25 °C:
- A short-sleeved bodysuit under a sleeping bag or a lightweight blanket may be enough
LiaaBébé 0.5 TOG sleeping bags are lightweight and breathable. They do not slip down and they do not ride up over your baby’s face either. They are safe, and let’s be honest, that helps us sleep more peacefully too.
If you prefer using little blankets, you can choose the right thickness for your baby by looking for the same TOG rating.

Dressing your baby outdoors in June, what should you watch out for?

Measured data shows that in June there can be as many as 25 summer days above 25 °C, and up to 15 heatwave days above 30 °C. In some areas, temperatures above 35 °C are even recorded. It really is unpredictable, especially because of climate change.
That is why it is best to focus on the following:
- Use lightweight, breathable clothes that can help balance changes in outside temperature
- Take a few warmer layers with you for walks, along with a small blanket, a sunshade for the pram, and a thin hat with ear coverage if it is windy
If the temperature is around 25 to 28 °C:
- A bodysuit on its own, or with lightweight trousers, a little blanket, or a cotton muslin
Above 30 °C:
- A bodysuit on its own, covered lightly with a thin, breathable cotton muslin
On days around 20 to 22 °C:
- A bodysuit with a sleepsuit and a lightweight blanket, or a 0.5 TOG sleeping bag, is a comfortable option
Always check how warm your baby feels at the nape of the neck. Hands and feet are not the best indicator. The chest and back tell you much more. If the skin feels warm and damp, or their hair is wet, they are too hot.
Why is bamboo fibre ideal for summer too?
Many people think of it as a winter fabric, but it shows its strengths just as clearly in summer.
Bamboo:
- breathes beautifully
- helps regulate your baby’s body temperature
- absorbs moisture quickly
- helps prevent rashes
- is soft and non-irritating
- is wonderfully stretchy, so dressing feels easy
From LiaaBébé’s experience, babies sweat less in bamboo and sleep more peacefully in it, even in warmer weather. And restful sleep matters so much, both for little ones and for the whole family.

Colours that feel like summer
Bright, cheerful and happy clothes suit babies and children so beautifully. We wanted to find the most special shades for our babywear, so that the whole family could enjoy them. If you visit our website, you can explore our loveliest colours and prints. Which ones are your favourites?
We also made sure that the individual colours and prints work beautifully together. Just imagine an Apricot sleeveless bodysuit with ruffle sleeves paired with the Peach Maze sleepsuit and a matching blanket in the same print.
Did you know that you can also find animal prints among our clothes? You can choose from dinosaur, tiger, shark and even giraffe designs.
That is really what makes baby clothing so lovable. It is not only comfortable, it is also lovely to look at. And yes, it is absolutely fine to step outside the classic white and beige world now and then.

Your frequently asked questions
Does a newborn need a hat in summer?
In strong sunshine, a thin, breathable hat with a peak is recommended, and in windy weather one with ear coverage is best.
Can a baby wear very little in hot weather?
Yes, but because of draughts, cooler evenings or air-conditioned spaces, it is always worth having one extra layer with you, and that can be a lightweight blanket too.
How many bodysuits will I need for the first few weeks?
Usually 5 to 7 pieces are comfortably enough, taking frequent outfit changes into account.
The foundation of a June baby’s wardrobe is lightweight, breathable, temperature-regulating fabric and clever layering that is easy to adapt. Because of both the heat and the cooler evenings, it is useful to have both short-sleeved and long-sleeved pieces, along with a lightweight sleeping bag.
If you choose quality clothes made from natural fabrics that move with your baby and adapt to changes in temperature, those first few weeks will feel much calmer.
With LiaaBébé babywear, you can create a thoughtful, practical and truly lovely summer wardrobe right from the very beginning, exactly the sort your little one will feel happy in.
